Back inward 2011, La Nueva Rampa closed its doors on West 14th Street. It was i of the city's concluding Chino-Latino restaurants--and the concluding i inward Chelsea, where they had i time been abundant since the 1960s.
It thus became El Paraiso, keeping upwards the Chino-Latino menu. Then El Paraiso shuttered inward 2016.
And now?
It's a temporary "immersive installation" called Unspoken. (At to the lowest degree it was when I wrote this post--it closed concluding week.) Strands of shimmering strings hang from the ceiling.
According to Lost Womyn's Space, this location was abode to Kooky's Cocktail Lounge inward the 1960s too 70s. The weblog quotes the next description from Karla Jay's Tales of the Lavender Menace: Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 Memoir of Liberation:
"Kooky, the proprietor, had the air of a retired prostitute or poorly put-together drag queen. She favored pastel prom dresses--the sort that required several crinolines to inflate them properly, were zipped inward the back, too called for a strapless bra too large bust to proceed the wearing clothing up. Perhaps she fancied herself the Scarlett O'Hara of Greenwich Village. Her pilus was shellacked into a large golden beehive that suggested that she had concluding set, teased, too sprayed her pilus inward the 1950s too thus left it permanently inward place."
Good materials there, simply that gold-lettered wall looks every bit good early on to live on Kooky's. If anyone knows what was hither before, delight allow us know.
